Yes , this is a type of filter. If you are thinking of making a koi pond…some type of bottom drain is needed. The pond also needs to be at least 3 feet deep and at least 1000gallons as koi can grow to three feet long. A filterfall would not enough filtration for koi as they poop alot. You could use this for goldfish as they do not grow as large or poop as much. If you want to learn more about koi I suggest that you look up KOIPHEN.COM, you will learn lots from them.
