Question by Anthony: in my water garden there are leeche like things what can they really be?
they are in the water garden with water lillys, snails, tad poles, and feeder gold fish. the leech like things are a dark brown color with just a hint of a darker red color. they are long and almost flat in shape they cant live out of water.

Sound like Leeches to me.

    They’re leaches. Best thing to do: get some strong rubber gloves and some nerve and pull out as many as possible. Bury them, throw them in a bucket of salt, whatever. Please don’t put any chemicals in water.

    If you don’t care that they are there, let it be. If you do, the fact that there are tadpoles mean frogs also use your pond so you don’t want to put anything in the water that would harm or mutate them.

    As the tadpoles get bigger, the leaches will go after them for sure, use a hoe if you need to, just get the nasty things out of there.
